We're thrilled to share some exciting updates on all the great things happening at Oregon Infant Mental Health Association (ORIMHA) this month.

ORIMHA is excited to partner with Zero to Three to offer the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) Training Series. Only 60 seats available! $200 for all 10 sessions or $25 per session! Registrants will have access to recorded sessions for 30 days post-event. Limited spots left!

ORIMHA thanks Denise Hughes-Tafen and Maiko Hata for helping to increase reflective supervision/consultation to Oregon’s BIPOC community by advising and supporting ORIMHA with a proposal to the Oregon Community Foundation. Learn more about these wonderful individuals.
Denise Hughes-Tafen
Dr. Denise Hughes-Tafen, (she/ her) is Faculty at Linn Benton Community College in the Human Development and Family Services program. She teaches classes in Child Development, Contemporary Families and Human Services. She is an Educator and Advocate with a focus on equity especially in the areas of race, disability, nation and intersectionality. She is passionate about children and families. She has worked in the fields of Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education as well as school aged Special Education. She centers care, connection and voice in her work. Her scholarship and teaching uses forms of oral tradition to amplify voices on the margins. Denise is from the Caribbean island of Antigua and lives in Corvallis with her family. She is a mom, wife, aunty, sister and friend; she identifies as being neurodiverse.
Maiko Hata
Maiko (pronounced “Mike-Oh”) Hata is a Japanese mother of two neurodivergent children who are growing up bilingual. After completing her first master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), she worked with international students for twenty years. Her research focus was assisting ELLs with disabilities, which led her to her second master’s degree in serving children with disabilities from culturally- and linguistically-diverse backgrounds. At Early Childhood CARES, University of Oregon, Maiko enjoys leading Caregiver-Implemented Intervention classes where she coaches families with toddlers with Autism as well as leading a BIPOC affinity group for colleagues. Along this journey, she learned she is Autistic herself. She is currently working towards her doctorate in Educational Leadership and endorsement as an Infant Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist.
