To the Regional Service Providers (and those working to decide which organization in their region will be the RSP)

We (Sondra & Nichole) continue to be incredibly impressed with the implementation plans we have seen and heard about from so many of you! We see the thoughtful and intentional ways you are considering how to recruit, hire, and prepare a diverse IECMH Consultation workforce. All the thinking you are doing about how to make processes and policies more equitable. Well done!! If you would still like some 1:1 support from us, we have the following times available or just email (nichole@or-imha.org) to find a time that works for you!

  • Thu Mar 6 12-1pm

Important Information and Updates

Tobiah Brown: What is reflective supervision/consultation (RS/C)?

(Second installment in a series)

Hello all!

After January’s newsletter and CoP,  you now have an idea of my job. As a reminder, my immediate job is to 1) support the mental health consultants with socio-emotionally managing the work they are doing through reflective consultation, 2) making sure they have training opportunities to be well rounded, equipped and growing in the field and 3) facilitate them achieving Endorsement and satisfy ORO requirements while giving a good faith nod to licensing.

My long term job is to support kids and their families, by supporting their caregivers, by supporting those who support the caregivers (mental health consultants), thereby making Oregon a safe and supportive state in which to be a kid.

So, to bring it back to you- how does this fit in? Let's think back on what we saw and heard last week: There is big emotional labor related to the IECMH Consultant position. What type of person do you want in that position? What would be their qualities and strengths? What will they need to be able to make good use of reflective consultation?

Related to hiring: I am immediately thinking of Washington County’s job fairs (great job y’all). Do you want to host something like this? Would you like Nichole or I to be there virtually, with a prerecorded blurb, or in-person (me)? Are you flying the position on ORIMHA’s site? There are job boards (links below) that could be helpful. And a reminder that Nichole and I are available to participate on your interview panels.

You all are doing great work. Thank you for your commitment to kids and families.

Save the Dates

Mar 6 from 9-11am: Virtual Community of Practice (CoP) for RSP Leaders

  • Apr 3 from 9-11am: Virtual Community of Practice (CoP) for RSP Leaders

  • Apr 30-May 2: In-Person Gathering near Bend (more details below)

In Person Training and Gathering in Bend!

The Every Child Belongs (ECB) in-person event will take place at Brasada Ranch near Bend. Invitations have been sent to a primary contact in each RSP. That person will communicate with ORIMHA for registration.

If you are leading the implementation for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) Consultation, please join us Wednesday April 30 through Friday May 2, 2025. Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning (Agenda A) will be an in-person Community of Practice with a focus on the plans you will develop for the next biennium’s scope of work. Our goal is for you to leave the event with a completed (or nearly completed) plan that meets DELC requirements. Thursday afternoon and all day Friday (Agenda B) are intended for you and some of your community partners (See next paragraph for who these partners are).

The ECB community partner members who make up your Regional Alignment for Coordinated Response to Provider Requests for Support (formerly known as RSN) are invited to join for Agenda B, beginning the afternoon of Thursday, May 1 through Friday May 2. Friday’s time will include an equity & inclusion training (that will be followed by a series of on-going conversations in affinity groups over the next several months). This is intended to support our mutual efforts to reduce disparities in suspension & expulsion.

Registration fees are $50 per person per day. For example, if you are an RSP leader attending Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, your total cost per registration will be $150 which will include room and board. If you are sending a community partner member who will be attending Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, the total cost per registration will be $100 which will include room and board. Limited additional registrations are available at a different rate if you are interested in sending more than four partners.

Please take a look at the graphic below to assist with your planning.

*Applying for ORO Set Two approval and social work CEUs available for training hours. Training will also count toward Endorsement.

We understand this is a lot of information. Bring your questions to the March 6 CoP or email us:

Big Picture

Resources

From Georgetown’s Center of Excellence for Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation:

Announcing the completion of the Centering Equity in IECMH Consultation Resource Series, which is a set of four interrelated reports that support infant and early childhood mental health consultants and supervisors to strengthen cultural responsiveness in IECMH Consultation for children and families in Native American, African American, Latin American, and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities (AANHPI). These resources build off of the Equity in IECMH Consultation webinar series and include promising practices aligned with the revised IECMH Consultation Competencies to strengthen culturally and linguistically responsive IECMH Consultation practices.
