July 2024 RSP Newsletter

Hello RSP Leaders!

This is the second in our on-going series of communication regarding the support you can expect from ORIMHA as you implement IECMH consultation in your communities.

Important Information and Updates

Planning and Supports for Implementation

There will be multiple ways we will provide support to you in your planning and implementation of IECMH consultation. As mentioned above, we will be gathering information via survey to help us customize training and support (coming soon!). There will be regular meetings with RSPs for ongoing group supports such as Communities of Practice, reflective consultation, opportunities for one on one planning, and in-depth trainings (see more below). There will also be individual planning times set with each RSP to enable Sondra & Nichole to identify strengths, supports, and strategies to prepare RSPs for implementation of services. Overall, we are here to support you in this process and are eager to get to know you more in the coming months!

Communities of Practice (CoPs): What and when are they?

Nichole and Sondra will be attending your virtual monthly gatherings for RSP Leaders on the first Thursday of the month from 9:00-11:00 am PT beginning in August. Please save the date! These gatherings will include an administrative agenda hosted by Katrina Miller from DELC followed by time for a Community of Practice (CoP) session hosted by Nichole and Sondra. There will be time for information sharing, collaboration, and questions relevant to IECMH Consultation. At the initial meeting on August 1, we will begin getting to know each of you and collectively determine the on-going CoP topics (e.g., best practices, professional development, etc.). These times are intended to be meaningful and supportive to you!

Anticipated Training Topics for RSP Leaders

We look forward to hosting a series of trainings that will foster shared definitions and understanding of central concepts relevant to this project. Below is the tentative list of training topics. We are eager for your input to grow and refine this list. Dates and times for training sessions are TBD.

  • Overview of infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH)

  • What is Endorsement?

  • Reflective Supervision/Consultation (RS/C)

  • What is IECMH consultation? What isn’t IECMH consultation?

  • Identifying the core model Oregon will use for IECMHC

  • Consultant Competencies: Who is qualified to provide IECMH consultation?

  • Guidelines for hiring, training, and retaining a diverse and qualified IECMH consultation workforce

  • Implementation - What does IECMH consultation look like in our systems?

  • Overview of the Diversity Informed Tenets for Work with Infants, Children, and Families

Save the Dates

Please mark your calendars for Thursday August 1 from 9-11am. This will be the first of on-going monthly Community of Practice for RSP leaders! You can expect a calendar invite with a Zoom link next week. (The first part of these meetings cover administrative topics with Katrina Miller with the second part dedicated for CoP time - see more details under Important Information & Updates below)

Big Picture

As this project is getting underway, you will be receiving a survey from ORIMHA. [This survey will be separate from other data being collected from you via survey from AB Cultural Drivers and/or interview invitation that you receive from Common Thread]. Your participation in all aspects of the data collection is critical. ORIMHA needs this input to develop customized supports and standards for IECMH consultation that meet your needs and the needs of your communities. We appreciate your investment of time and thoughtfulness!

Among the supports on the way are implementation planning supports including one on one planning meetings communities of practice, hiring resources, and training. (See more on each of these below). ORIMHA’s goals are to give you the tools to 1) recruit and retain qualified IECMH consultants who are representative of the communities served, and 2) develop standards and implement programming that is both aligned with the evidence on IECMHC and is responsive to the communities you serve.

Resources

Being able to quickly explain Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation is important when working with communities and implementing a new initiative! Do you have an “elevator” length description of IECMH consultation? This clip from Georgetown’s National Center of Excellence on IECMHC is a great overview. It’s just over two minutes long.

What is IECMHC

Are you looking for a clearer picture of what it is that IECMH consultants do? A Day in the Life of an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant offers a collection of stories that bring the work to life.

We look forward to meeting with you on August 1! In the meantime, please let us know how we can support you and we will continue to communicate regularly to provide updates.
